Origin & History

The Braque d'Auvergne is an ancient French pointing breed from the volcanic Auvergne region, dating back to the 16th century. Developed as a versatile hunting companion, this breed excels at:

  • Pointing game with exceptional style and intensity
  • Working in rugged mountain terrain
  • Adapting to various hunting conditions

Known for its distinctive black-and-white mottled coat, the Braque d'Auvergne nearly disappeared after World War II but was saved by dedicated breeders. Today they remain rare outside France but are prized for their gentle temperament and strong work ethic.

The Braque d'Auvergne is a gentle dog, very affectionate, intelligent and obedient. Its training consists mainly of developing its natural abilities. Its sense of smell is powerful. It adapts well to family life.
